KLANG, Jan 27: Police have launched a manhunt for two local men following a late-night chase in Meru that ended with a patrol vehicle being forced off the road, North Klang police confirmed on Tuesday.

North Klang OCPD Assistant Commissioner S. Vijaya Rao said the incident occurred at around 10pm on Jan 26, when a police mobile patrol vehicle (MPV) from the North Klang district police headquarters was conducting routine patrols in the area.

“Officers spotted a vehicle behaving suspiciously and instructed the driver to stop. However, the suspect ignored the order and sped off in an attempt to evade police,” he said in a statement.

During the pursuit, the suspects allegedly used a fire extinguisher against the patrol car, causing the police vehicle to skid off the road. Both suspects then fled the scene on foot, while their vehicle was later found abandoned nearby.

“No police personnel were injured in the incident,” ACP Vijaya Rao said.

He added that police are actively working to identify, trace, and arrest the suspects. A police report has been lodged, and investigations are being conducted under Section 186 of the Penal Code for obstructing a public servant in the discharge of official duties.

The offense carries a penalty of up to two years’ imprisonment, a fine of up to RM10,000, or both.

Police have also urged the public not to spread unverified information or speculation related to the case, warning that firm action will be taken against any behavior that could threaten public order or cause unnecessary public concern.
