KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has extended his congratulations to Malaysia’s men’s singles player, Lee Zii Jia, for winning the bronze medal in badminton at the 2024 Olympic Games.

According to Berita Harian, Zii Jia defeated Indian player Lakshya Sen in the bronze medal match at Porte de La Chapelle Arena earlier tonight.

“Congratulations Lee Zii Jia! Another spectacular performance bringing home Malaysia’s second bronze medal!” said the Prime Minister on his X account.

This marks Malaysia’s second medal, following the men’s doubles pair, Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik, who secured bronze yesterday by defeating Denmark’s Kim Astrup and Anders Skaarup Rasmussen in the bronze medal match.

In the earlier match, Zii Jia, who is also the world number seven, recovered from a first-set loss of 13-21 to win 21-16, 21-11.

This achievement improves on Zii Jia’s performance at the Tokyo Olympics, where he reached the round of 16 before losing to China’s silver medalist Chen Long with scores of 21-8, 19-21, 5-21.
