Ops PeWA: Johor JPJ Issues 3,072 Notices to 1,346 Foreigners Since June
JOHOR BAHRU: The Johor Road Transport Department (JPJ) has issued 3,072 notices for various road offences involving 1,346 foreigners under the Special Operation on Foreign Drivers (Ops PeWA) conducted statewide from June 1 until today.
Johor JPJ director Zulkarnain Yasin said those involved comprised 447 Pakistani nationals, 251 Bangladeshis, 223 Singaporeans, 180 Indonesians and 150 Myanmar nationals.
He said notices for various offences were also issued to 21 Vietnamese nationals, 19 Indians, five Nepalese, two Cambodians and 48 individuals from other countries.
Zulkarnain said investigations found that about 70 per cent of the vehicles ridden or driven by the foreigners were personally owned through private handover transactions without undergoing the proper ownership transfer process with JPJ.
“They buy vehicles through handover arrangements, and when they want to return to their home countries, the vehicles are sold to other friends. This makes it difficult to trace the original owners,” he told a press conference here today.
Meanwhile, Zulkarnain said vehicles seized during the operation included 347 motorcycles, 69 cars and 24 other private vehicles.
He said a total of 10,580 vehicles were inspected, with 4,565 offences detected.
The most common offence was driving without a Competent Driving Licence (CDL), involving 788 cases.
Other offences included 693 cases of expired Motor Vehicle Licences (LKM), 528 cases of driving without insurance coverage, 449 cases involving vehicle owners allowing individuals without a CDL to drive their vehicles, and 207 cases of failing to wear helmets.
Zulkarnain said the department would continue to intensify integrated enforcement operations with relevant agencies to ensure compliance with road laws and safeguard the safety of road users.
“JPJ also urges and seeks the cooperation of all parties to comply with regulations and show consideration towards other road users for their own safety and that of their families,” he said.
