SEREMBAN: Malaysia will ensure the safety of Myanmar refugees is guaranteed before they are sent back to their home country.
Foreign Minister, Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan said, the Ministry of Home Affairs (KDN) is currently negotiating with the Myanmar Embassy in Kuala Lumpur to implement a phased repatriation.
According to him, more than 1,000 of the approximately 5,000 Myanmar refugees identified have already been determined in status and are potentially eligible to be sent back.
“I have asked the Chief Secretary to contact the Myanmar Government through their embassy so that they can bring these people back gradually.
“No need to wait until 5,000 people are identified. Since more than 1,000 have been identified, they can be sent back,” he told reporters after the Ziarah Kasih Programme at Taman Pinggiran Senawang in Seremban today.
