AHMEDABAD, INDIA: In what many are calling a miraculous escape, one passenger was found alive amidst the wreckage of a devastating plane crash in Ahmedabad, India, when authorities feared there would be no survivors. The passenger was rescued by police from the debris of the downed aircraft, and a video of him walking away from the scene has gone viral on social media.

In the video, the man—dressed in a white t-shirt and dark-colored pants—is seen walking slowly, covered in smoke and blood. He appeared to be limping, possibly due to injuries to his legs. According to police, the man had been seated in seat 11A.

Ahmedabad Police Commissioner G.S. Malik confirmed the rescue, stating, “We have rescued one passenger alive. He is currently receiving treatment at a hospital. It is still too early to confirm the total number of fatalities, as the aircraft crashed into a residential area, and the death toll may rise.”

The survivor has been identified as Vishwash Kumar Ramesh, a 40-year-old British-Indian citizen who was on his way back to the United Kingdom. Reports indicate he was traveling with his brother.

The aircraft involved was a London-bound Air India Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, carrying 242 passengers and crew. Shortly after taking off from Ahmedabad, the aircraft ascended to 825 feet before suddenly beginning to lose altitude. Prior to the crash, the pilot had issued a “Mayday” distress signal, after which all radio contact was lost.

The exact cause of the crash remains unclear. Aviation experts suggest possible factors could include engine failure, mechanical malfunction, or a bird strike.

An investigation is currently underway to determine the cause of the crash and assess the full extent of casualties and damage.
