Melaka State Election: ‘Just Tell Us If You’re Not Interested’ – Amirudin

MASJID TANAH: Pakatan Harapan (PH) wants Barisan Nasional (BN) to clarify its position on possible cooperation ahead of the Melaka state election, as there have been no developments regarding a meeting between the two sides so far.

PH Election Director Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said PH had no problem if BN was not interested in working together.

However, he said BN should make its position clear so that PH could proceed with preparations for the Melaka state election, which is expected to be held soon.

“So far, there has been no indication of cooperation. I’m not sure how long it will be before the State Legislative Assembly is dissolved, but perhaps they are not interested.

“So, we have no problem if they are not interested. Just tell us, and we will proceed (with cooperation without BN),” he said after officiating the launch of the Masjid Tanah election machinery in Kuala Sungai Baru here last night.

Also present were Political Secretary to the Prime Minister Datuk Azman Abidin and Acting Chairman of the Melaka PKR State Leadership Council Adam Adli Abd Halim.

Amirudin, who is also the Selangor Menteri Besar, also questioned BN’s position after the coalition had previously been linked to several possible forms of political cooperation.

“Initially, they said they might go solo, then they said they might go with PAS, and after that, they said they could go with PH.

“So, perhaps that is intended to keep both opponents and allies guessing,” he said.

Meanwhile, Amirudin said PH was prepared for various scenarios, including contesting on its own, forming a new political alignment or cooperating with UMNO/BN.

However, he said PH would not simply wait for developments in the negotiations and would instead continue its preparations, including mobilising its election machinery, strengthening its team and preparing in constituencies identified for contesting.
