Man charged with murdering mother has been taken to Hospital Bahagia

GEORGE TOWN: Today, the Magistrate’s Court here mandated that a guy accused of killing his mother be sent for mental monitoring to Hospital Bahagia Ulu Kinta, Perak.

In accordance with Section 342 of the Criminal Procedure Code, Magistrate Nadratun Naim Mohd Saidi granted an application by deputy public prosecutor M. Darrshini and directed that Soon Yong Aun, 40, be placed under observation in a hospital for a month.

Soon was accused of killing Chua Ah Ting, 67, at a home in Taman Alor Vista at 5:47 p.m. on June 15 under Section 302 of the Penal Code.

If found guilty, he could have received the death penalty, a minimum of 30 years in jail, a maximum of 40 years in prison, and at least 12 canings.

The accused is in possession of a card for mental illness, according to Darrshini, who made the request to send the accused for psychiatric observation earlier.

The accused’s medical report is due on July 24, according to a date set by the court.
