Police in Alor Setar have arrested a 43-year-old man suspected of assaulting his wife, leading to a miscarriage in an incident that occurred last week in the Ambangan Heights area.
Kedah Police Chief Adzli Abu Shah confirmed that the suspect will be brought before the Sungai Petani Magistrate’s Court for a remand application to facilitate investigations under Section 325 of the Penal Code, which covers causing grievous hurt.
Authorities said a press conference regarding the arrest will be held at the Kedah Police Contingent Headquarters.
The case gained widespread attention after it went viral on social media, where the 39-year-old victim, a civil servant, was reported to have suffered serious injuries after allegedly being beaten by her husband. She sustained injuries to her hand, a fractured finger, and bruises to her face, in addition to losing her pregnancy.
The suspect is also accused of fleeing with nearly RM50,000 in his wife’s savings and jewelry.
Police revealed that the man is believed to be the same individual previously sought by Johor authorities in connection with a 2021 case involving another wife, Jahidah Nordin, who was beaten into a coma.
Jahidah, also a former civil servant, is now reportedly bedridden and reliant on tube feeding for survival.
