ANKARA: Malaysia is seeking to further strengthen its defence industry cooperation with Türkiye following a high-level meeting involving Turkish defence company Otokar during an official working visit to the country.

The discussion focused on expanding strategic collaboration between Otokar and Boustead Holdings Berhad under one of Malaysia’s national defence projects guided by the National Defence Industry Policy (DIPN).

Otokar, one of Türkiye’s leading defence manufacturers known for producing armoured vehicles and military mobility platforms, is currently working with Boustead Holdings in developing local capabilities for the assembly and manufacturing of wheeled chassis platforms in Malaysia.

The meeting also touched on the strengthening of cooperation between both companies during the Defence Services Asia 2026 exhibition held in Kuala Lumpur, which forms part of Otokar’s broader effort to expand its presence in the Asia-Pacific region.

According to the statement, the partnership has the potential to create broader opportunities for Malaysia’s defence industry, particularly in the areas of maintenance, assembly operations, technology transfer and the development of a stronger local defence support ecosystem.

Officials described the collaboration as more than just a commercial relationship, stressing that it represents a long-term partnership built on trust, continuity and shared strategic interests.

The cooperation is also expected to support Malaysia’s “self-reliance” agenda while enhancing the growth and competitiveness of the country’s domestic defence industry.
