Malaysia seeks reciprocity from China for 30-day visa exemption

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia hopes that China will reciprocate by offering a 30-day visa exemption to Malaysian citizens, similar to the visa waiver that Malaysia provides to Chinese nationals, said Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan.

According to Bernama, he noted that currently, China grants Malaysian citizens visa-free entry for 15 days.

“We are requesting that this be based on reciprocity. When we offer 30 days, we hope China will also provide 30 days.

“This will facilitate Malaysians in establishing relationships with people in China, traveling, and for those who have business interests there,” he said during a Q&A session in the Dewan Negara today.

He was responding to a question from Prof Emeritus Datuk Seri Dr Awang Sariyan, who inquired about the steps being taken to enhance people-to-people and government-to-government relations between Malaysia and China.

Malaysia offers a 30-day visa exemption to Chinese and Indian nationals for visits under the Visa Liberalization Plan (VLP), which came into effect on December 1 of last year.
