MALACCA, Sept 28 (VoM): Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim last night officially launched Visit Malaysia Year 2026, celebrating Malacca’s deep-rooted cultural heritage and historical significance as a global attraction.

Speaking at the event, the prime minister described Malacca as more than just a historical relic but a living testimony to the greatness of the Malay Sultanate that continues to pulse in the nation’s identity.

“Wise like Hang Tuah, brave like Hang Jebat, this is proof that Malacca’s glorious past is still alive. History is not merely a record of the past but a medium of unity, where art, culture, and tourism-based economy converge,” he said.

He stressed that Visit Malaysia Year 2026 is not only a celebration of tourism but also a revival of national history told from Malaysia’s own perspective, free from colonial narratives.

Recalling the story of Enrique of Malacca, also known as Henry the Black or Panglima Awang, who sailed with Ferdinand Magellan in the 15th century, the prime minister said Malacca once rose as a cosmopolitan civilization through its vibrant maritime trade. “That golden age now returns, illuminating the global stage once again,” he added.

Highlighting Malaysia’s diversity, Anwar emphasized that the nation’s strength lies in its pluralism of races, religions, and cultures.

“With the words Bismillahirrahmanirrahim, I officially launch Visit Malaysia Year 2026. I invite the world to come and experience our history, embrace our arts and culture, and celebrate the beauty of our diversity,” he declared.

The program aims to showcase Malaysia’s unique heritage, cuisine, arts, and people, positioning Malacca as both a tourism and cultural hub on the international stage.
