Malaysia hopes for success in peace negotiations in Sudan
KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia has expressed hope that the ongoing negotiations to establish a ceasefire and lasting stability in Sudan will be successful.
According to Bernama, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim conveyed this hope during a courtesy visit by Sudan’s Acting Foreign Minister Hussein Awad Ali Mohamed in Putrajaya today.
“Our discussions focused on the conflict in Sudan, particularly the status of negotiations to establish a ceasefire and lasting stability in Sudan, as well as the concerning humanitarian situation faced by the Sudanese people.
“I have expressed my hope that the ongoing peace negotiations will succeed, allowing Sudan to return to being a country with significant potential and enabling its people to continue their efforts towards progress and development,” Anwar said on Facebook.
The Prime Minister stated that Malaysia is always committed to providing support and praying for peace and stability in Sudan so that its people can enjoy lasting political and socioeconomic stability.
Anwar added that Hussein also conveyed the Sudanese government’s appreciation for Malaysia’s assistance to the country and its people, which has had a significant impact.
Hussein, who is in Malaysia to attend a conference titled ‘Sudan: The Forgotten War,’ also delivered a letter from the President of the Sudan Transitional Sovereignty Council to Anwar.
