MADANI Government Has Not Sidelined Bumiputera Development Agenda – PM

SHAH ALAM: The MADANI Government continues to prioritise Bumiputera interests as part of the country’s development agenda.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the government’s position is clear and consistent with provisions in the Federal Constitution concerning the position of the Bumiputera community.

“Malaysia has a clear Constitution. Whoever becomes the leader cannot dismantle our Constitution.

“So, do not think that we are somehow sidelining the Bumiputera,” he said in his keynote address at the Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Alumni Gathering on Saturday.

Anwar said this commitment could also be seen in the allocation for UiTM, with the government providing RM3.08 billion for 2026, covering operating and development expenditure, compared with less than RM2 billion under the previous administration.

He stressed that the increased allocation was one example of the government’s efforts to give greater attention to the Bumiputera development agenda.

“Our position on the Bumiputera development policy continues to receive attention. Under the MADANI Government, the attention given to it is far greater than under the previous leadership.

“The interests of the majority and the Bumiputera are not being sidelined,” he said.

However, Anwar said the emphasis on the Bumiputera agenda must be accompanied by integrity in the management of funds to ensure that every government allocation is used appropriately.

“I am simply more stringent in ensuring that every ringgit in these agencies is not misused,” he said.

He said the government would also assess the performance and role of Bumiputera agencies, including UiTM, to ensure that these institutions continue to be strengthened.

“I have proposed to the chairman that seven to 10 UiTM alumni be selected. I will give them the opportunity to assess the performance and role of Bumiputera agencies, including UiTM.

“We will give due consideration to all recommendations for further improvements,” he said.
