KUSKOP hosts first Indian Community Cooperative Conference
KUALA LUMPUR: The Ministry of Entrepreneurship and Cooperative Development (KUSKOP) will host the Indian Community Cooperative Conference (PKKI) for the first time in the 100-year history of cooperatives.
The PKKI will take place on October 13, targeting the participation of up to 800 participants consisting of Indian community operators.
The conference will be held at the Bank Rakyat Twin Towers in Kuala Lumpur and will be officiated by the Deputy Minister of Entrepreneurship and Cooperative Development, Datuk Seri R. Ramanan.
The main objective of this conference is to enhance the knowledge of Indian community operators regarding the Malaysian Cooperative Policy 2023 (DaKoM 2030).
“This will also identify governance issues and best practices in the management of Indian community cooperatives.
“The conference will include presentations on issues, challenges, and enhancing the competitiveness of Indian Community Cooperatives, a forum titled ‘Economic Transformation of Indian Community Cooperatives: Prospects and Vision,’ and a dialogue session with Ramanan,” he stated at a press conference at the Bank Rakyat Twin Towers.
Ramanan hopes that the PKKI will not only assist individuals but also contribute to the development of the Indian community, particularly towards a more sustainable and competitive future.
He mentioned that the PKKI 2024 could serve as a platform for Indian community cooperatives to gain exposure to the initiatives and incentives provided by KUSKOP through the Cooperative Commission of Malaysia (SKM) and other agencies under the Ministry to strengthen the national cooperative movement.
“In addition, it provides a significant opportunity for cooperatives to exchange ideas and foster collaboration to enhance business activities and improve cooperative management,” he said.
At the same time, Ramanan also launched the PKKI logo in conjunction with the upcoming conference.
He expressed his appreciation for the strong support and consistent commitment from Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and the Minister of Entrepreneurship and Cooperative Development, Datuk Ewon Benedick.
He acknowledged their concern and responsiveness to the agenda of empowering the economic status of the Indian community.
