JOHOR BAHRU: A total of 24,677 postal ballot papers have been issued by the Election Commission (SPR) to individuals eligible to vote by post in the 16th Johor State Election (PRN).
SPR Secretary Datuk Khairul Shahril Idrus said this is as provided for under Regulation 3 of the Election (Postal Voting) Regulations 2003.
He explained that the issuance of postal ballot papers was carried out by election officials in all 56 State Legislative Assembly constituencies yesterday.
“Of that total, 23,288 of the postal ballot papers are for Form 1A category, involving election workers, SPR members and officers, police personnel, military personnel as well as media personnel.
“A total of 1,044 postal ballot papers were issued for the Form 1B category, involving Malaysian citizens residing abroad, while another 345 are for the Form 1C category involving agencies or organisations,” he said in a statement today.
He said the process of issuing postal ballot papers was conducted in the presence of candidate representatives from all parties or individuals contesting.
Khairul Shahril also reminded all postal voters to mark their ballot papers and fill in the Identity Declaration Form (Form 2) completely and correctly.
He said the papers must then be returned immediately to the respective State Legislative Assembly Returning Officer before 5 p.m. on polling day, 11 July.
He also reminded voters to always maintain the secrecy of their votes by not taking photographs of the postal ballot papers or sharing them on social media.
A total of 172 candidates are contesting in the Johor PRN, which will take place on 11 July, while early voting is on 7 July.
