JAKIM Advises Independent Preachers Against Charging Excessive Fees

The Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM) has advised independent preachers to refrain from charging excessively high fees for their preaching services and reminded them not to equate their status with that of celebrities.

JAKIM Director-General, Datuk Dr. Sirajuddin Suhaimee, stated that the department is closely monitoring the situation in collaboration with authorities and state religious councils following claims that some preachers impose high charges for their activities.

“We are monitoring this matter as we have heard such allegations… Preachers are advised not to see themselves as celebrities profiting from their voices,” he told reporters after officiating the groundbreaking ceremony for the Wakaf Project to build Surau Al-Kausar at the Labuan Health Department today.

He urged preachers to set reasonable fees for their services to uphold the purity of dakwah and maintain a positive Islamic image, preventing negative perceptions toward those entrusted with spreading religious teachings.

However, Dr. Sirajuddin noted that JAKIM does not yet see the need to introduce specific guidelines on fees for preachers, as the situation remains under control.
