Israeli airstrikes have intensified across the region, with new attacks in Lebanon’s Baalbek area resulting in at least 19 deaths, including eight women. The strikes hit two towns in this historic region, adding to the mounting civilian toll amid regional unrest.

Lebanon’s caretaker Prime Minister, Najib Mikati, expressed hopes for a possible ceasefire agreement with Israel, which he suggested could be announced in the coming hours or days. This comes as U.S. envoy Amos Hochstein visits the region to facilitate peace negotiations and attempt to de-escalate hostilities.

In Gaza, the situation remains dire, with northern Gaza’s Beit Lahiya declared a “disaster zone” by local authorities. Reports indicate at least 10 more Palestinians lost their lives in the latest wave of Israeli bombardments, bringing the casualty count to unprecedented levels. Since October 7, over 43,000 Palestinians have been killed, and more than 100,000 have sustained injuries. Israel’s side has also suffered significant casualties, with over 1,100 people killed and more than 200 taken captive during Hamas-led attacks.

Lebanon has also seen substantial losses, with at least 2,822 killed and nearly 13,000 wounded since the onset of the conflict in Gaza. Diplomatic efforts continue as regional and international figures push for a ceasefire to prevent further humanitarian disasters.
