PETALING JAYA: Voters in Kuala Kubu Baharu will head to the ballot box on May 11 in a by-election to choose their state assembly representative.
To measure how the constituency stacks up against other state seats in Selangor, The Star analysed figures in the Subnational State Assembly Seat Statistics 2023 report issued by the Statistics Department.
Here is what we found:
It is Selangor’s ‘biggest’ seat
In terms of land area, Kuala Kubu Baharu is the largest among Selangor’s 56 state seats at 617 square km.
As a comparison, Kuala Kubu Baharu is two-and-a-half times bigger than the federal city of Kuala Lumpur (243 square km) which is located about an hour’s drive away.
Kuala Kubu Baharu is 88 times larger than the smallest state seat in Selangor which is Kampung Tunku which measures just 7 square km.

Other than its size, Kuala Kubu Baharu holds another record among Selangor state seats for having the biggest number of villages at 47.
