Increase PKR membership in Federal Territories to strengthen the party, says Azman
KUALA LUMPUR: Membership in the Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) in the Federal Territories is urged to be increased to match the party’s membership in Selangor, which currently stands at 300,000.
According to the Wilayahku portal, the Prime Minister’s Political Secretary, Datuk Azman Abidin, stated that to achieve this, the growth of PKR membership should start from Bandar Tun Razak to be ready for elections at any time.
“I see that while there has been an increase in members in the Federal Territories, it is still far behind Selangor, which has 300,000 members. The Federal Territories currently have only 40,000 members.
“My task is to ensure that each branch, not just Bandar Tun Razak, increases its membership and branches.
“This alone will strengthen our grassroots when facing elections, regardless of whether we are part of the Unity Government or otherwise,” he said during his speech at the PKR Bandar Tun Razak 2024 Annual General Meeting.
Meanwhile, Azman said PKR needs to be strengthened throughout the country, including in Terengganu and Sabah.
He stated that in Sabah, it is crucial for PKR to win as many seats as possible in the State Elections (PRN) as this will lead up to the 16th General Election (PRU16).
“In Terengganu, we do not want to contest only three seats after this.
“If we are strong in three or four years, it is not impossible for Terengganu to become the backbone of PKR,” he said.
Further commenting, Azman also urged PKR Bandar Tun Razak to reach out to Malay voters to regain strong support for PRU16.
He said all leaders and members of PKR Bandar Tun Razak need to ‘go down to the field’ to engage with Malay voters.
Azman also aims for all PKR Polling District Centers (PDM) to have increased membership and branches by the end of this year.
He stated that PKR needs to ensure that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim leads the country once again after PRU16.
“The people’s confidence in Anwar is growing due to his leadership.
“Many foreign leaders also want to meet Anwar, and investment is flowing into the country,” he said.
Azman also expressed his gratitude to PKR Vice President Nurul Izzah Anwar for attending the PKR Bandar Tun Razak 2024 Annual General Meeting.
