Langkawi, Malaysia—May 20, 2025 — The Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition (LIMA ’25) officially launched today, signaling Malaysia’s ongoing dedication to regional peace, security, and innovation. The five-day event, held from May 20 to 24 in Langkawi, brings together global defense leaders and reaffirms Malaysia’s role as a central force in ASEAN’s collective security framework.

Officiated by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, LIMA ’25 welcomes more than 860 exhibitors from over 30 countries, showcasing state-of-the-art aerospace and maritime technologies. With this year’s theme, “Today’s Innovation, Tomorrow’s Achievements,” the exhibition underlines Malaysia’s proactive stance in regional defense preparedness, technological advancement, and diplomatic engagement.

“Malaysia remains steadfast in its commitment to promoting peace and stability in Southeast Asia,” said Prime Minister Anwar during his opening address. “LIMA ’25 reflects our dedication not only to enhancing defense capabilities but also to fostering multilateral cooperation among ASEAN and global partners.”

The event features thrilling aerial demonstrations by the Royal Malaysian Air Force, along with international participants such as the Russian Knights and Indonesia’s Jupiter Aerobatic Team. Despite geopolitical challenges affecting some countries’ participation, including the absence of India’s Surya Kiran Aerobatic Team, the exhibition continues to thrive as a symbol of unity and resilience.

Beyond the displays and defense hardware, LIMA ’25 provides a critical platform for strategic dialogues, defense agreements, and cooperative frameworks. It supports Malaysia’s involvement in initiatives like the Malacca Strait Patrols, the ASEAN Defense Ministers’ Meeting (ADMM), and United Nations peacekeeping missions. These efforts highlight Malaysia’s long-standing contribution to peace-building and regional security.

LIMA ’25 also emphasizes inclusivity in peace and security, with panels addressing gender equity in defense and the Women, Peace, and Security agenda. These initiatives align with ASEAN’s broader vision of comprehensive security that includes human development and resilience.

As Southeast Asia faces evolving security dynamics, Malaysia’s leadership in hosting LIMA ’25 reinforces its vital role in creating a peaceful, stable, and cooperative ASEAN region. The exhibition showcases cutting-edge defense technologies and strengthens the bonds of regional unity and shared prosperity.
