ISTANBUL : At least 460 people have been killed and more than 4,300 others injured in Tehran since the start of the joint military campaign by United States and Israel against Iran, according to a senior health official in the Iranian capital.

Mehr Soroush, deputy head of the Tehran Emergency Health Department, told state broadcaster IRIB News on Tuesday that a total of 460 people have died and 4,309 others have been wounded in the capital since attacks began on Feb. 28.

Soroush also reported significant damage to emergency response infrastructure. According to him, 18 ambulances and 18 emergency response bases in Tehran have been damaged during the ongoing strikes, affecting the city’s ability to respond quickly to casualties.

The escalation follows a series of coordinated strikes launched by the United States and Israel targeting sites across Iran since Feb. 28. Iranian officials say the broader conflict has already killed more than 1,200 people and injured over 10,000 nationwide.

In response, Tehran has launched retaliatory attacks using drones and missiles aimed at Israeli targets and at locations in Jordan, Iraq, and several Gulf countries hosting United States military facilities.

The rapidly escalating confrontation has raised fears of a wider regional conflict, as tensions continue to rise across the Middle East with both sides showing no immediate signs of de-escalation.
