SEPANG, Oct 1 (VoM): The Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF), an international humanitarian mission carrying aid supplies and activists for Gaza, has successfully entered the R3 Red Zone, placing the convoy just 100 nautical miles from the Gaza shoreline.
According to Datuk Dr. Sani Araby Abdul Alim Araby, director-general of the Sumud Nusantara Command Centre (SNCC), the first vessel, Seulle, entered the zone at approximately 9.20pm Malaysian time on Wednesday.
“Barring any unforeseen obstacles, the flotilla is expected to enter the R2 Red Zone on Thursday (Oct 2) at 4.08am Malaysian time, or 11.08pm Gaza time,” Dr. Sani told reporters.
He said SNCC continues to monitor the progress of the mission around the clock and remains in constant communication with the vessels. “We also do our utmost to provide moral support to those on board,” he added.
The director-general explained that participants are currently undergoing training and preparation phases while at sea and have been advised not to engage extensively with the outside world to avoid disruptions.
“We pray that these stages will, God willing, end in victory. Whatever the trials, we urge Malaysians to continue praying,” Dr. Sani said.
If weather conditions and vessel speed remain stable, the GSF mission is expected to reach the Gaza coastline on Oct 2 at 6.32pm Malaysian time (1.32pm Gaza time).
The Global Sumud Flotilla, comprising international activists and humanitarian organizations, aims to break the blockade of Gaza and deliver much-needed aid to its people amid the ongoing humanitarian crisis.
