GEORGE TOWN: Police arrested five foreigners, including a woman, to assist in the investigation into the kidnapping and extortion of a Bangladeshi man in Shah Alam, Selangor yesterday.

Those detained consist of four Bangladeshi men and a Myanmar woman aged between 23 and 37 years.

It is understood that the mastermind of the group is 30 years old while the woman is the lover of one of the suspects.

Northeast District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Razlam Ab Hamid said, his party received a report regarding the kidnapping of the 32-year-old victim from his father last Friday.

“The suspect also threatened to kill the victim if the family failed to give the money they requested.

“Following that, the victim’s family put a sum of money into a bank account given to the suspect.

“Acting on reports and intelligence, a police team from the Penang Contingent Police Headquarters, North East District Police Headquarters and assisted by Bukit Aman conducted a raid in the nation’s capital,” he said when contacted today.

According to him, the first raid was made in Bukit Bintang, Kuala Lumpur which led to the arrest of two men.

“We also detained two men and a woman in the second raid.
