Fire at Polish Aerosol Factory Raises Explosion Risk

WARSAW – A fire that broke out at an aerosol manufacturing factory in Charnowo, northern Poland on Sunday has yet to be extinguished as of 6.30 pm local time, with firefighting operations continuing.

According to local authorities, there is a risk of an explosion, reports Xinhua.

The fire was reported to have occurred shortly before 1 pm local time, with firefighters confirming that the entire factory premises had been engulfed in flames.

More than 60 firefighting and volunteer units, involving over 200 personnel, were deployed to the scene to control the blaze.

Police also ordered the evacuation of workers and residents in the vicinity of the factory, while thick black smoke could be seen from several kilometres away.

The Central Safety Council also issued a special advisory regarding the smoke following the incident.

According to local television channel TVN24, Slupsk Fire Department media officer Piotr Basarab acknowledged that the situation at the location was challenging.

“We can still hear explosions from the affected area, and at the same time we are facing a high risk of explosion caused by accumulated gas from the fire,” he said.

Emergency services have so far reported no casualties, while informing that only security personnel were inside the building when the fire started.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, and firefighting operations are expected to continue until Monday.
