Father Breaks Leg, Son Suffers Head Injury In 10-Vehicle Crash

MELAKA:  father and his son were among those injured after being involved in an accident involving 10 vehicles along the AMJ Cheng Highway on Friday night.

In the incident which occurred at approximately 9 pm, the accident involved seven cars, a lorry, a four-wheel-drive vehicle and a Honda Dash motorcycle ridden by the 39-year-old victim together with his 11-year-old son.

Melaka Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department Chief, Superintendent Muhammad Zaki Ramat said preliminary investigations found that the accident occurred when a Toyota Hilux driven by a 29-year-old man from the Malim direction heading towards Cheng was believed to have lost control before ramming into several vehicles that were stopped at a traffic light junction.

According to him, the victim’s motorcycle was also hit from the rear before a collision involving several other vehicles occurred.

“As a result of the accident, the victim suffered a broken leg, while his son sustained injuries to the head and had to be intubated.

“The Toyota Hilux driver, meanwhile, sustained minor injuries to the face. All victims were taken to Melaka Hospital for further treatment,” he said in a statement on Saturday.

He said the screening test results found the Toyota Hilux driver to be negative for drugs and alcohol breath test (SD2+).

“However, the driver’s blood sample has been taken to be sent to the Melaka Chemistry Department for toxicology testing.

“All vehicles involved will be sent to PUSPAKOM Alor Gajah for further inspection. Police have also obtained dashcam footage showing the incident and it will be made part of the investigation material,” he said.

He said the case is being investigated under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 and further investigations are still ongoing.
