Electricity tariffs remain unchanged for 8.2 million consumers
PUTRAJAYA: About 8.2 million domestic users in Peninsular Malaysia are not affected by the electricity tariff adjustment for the period from July 1 to December 31 under the Imbalance Cost Relief (ICPT) mechanism.
FMT reports, according to the Ministry of Energy Transition and Water Transformation (Petra), the maintenance of that rate is enjoyed by users with electricity consumption of 600kWh up to 1,500kWh.
A total of 6.9 million consumers with electricity consumption of 600kWh enjoy a rebate of 2 cents per kWh, 1.3 million consumers with consumption between 601 and 1,500 kWh (no surcharge) and 85,000 consumers above 1,500 kWh (remaining 10% surcharge).
Meanwhile, the government also reduced electricity bills by between 1% and 4% for non-domestic users involving water operators, sewerage, low voltage, specific agricultural tariffs, street lights under local authorities (PBT) and others.
According to him, the rates for water and sewerage operators other than the 1.7 million low voltage users (tariffs B and D) and agriculture (H, H1 and H2) which were lowered from RM3.70 sen/kWh to RM2.70, are expected to reduce bills between RM2 to RM429,000.
Meanwhile, the tariff reduction for street light bills under PBT will reduce the bill by between 38 sen up to RM1,526, meanwhile the tariff of other non-domestic users will be reduced from 10 sen to 9 sen expected to reduce their bill between RM2 up to RM192 ,000.
