MIRI: An elderly couple tragically lost their lives in a fire that destroyed their home in Kampung Pangkalan Lutong this morning. The remains of Abdullah Nassa, 77, and his wife Jaimah Badar, 64, were discovered in the bathroom around 12:15 PM.

According to a spokesperson from the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department, firefighters from Lutong and Lopeng stations were dispatched to the scene after receiving the emergency call at 10:55 AM.

“The semi-permanent, two-story house, approximately 15 meters by 9 meters in size, was entirely engulfed by the flames,” the spokesperson reported. The fire was brought under control by 11:30 AM, and the bodies were subsequently handed over to the police for further investigation.

In a separate incident, a family of seven was left homeless when a fire gutted a quarters unit at the Miri district police headquarters yesterday. The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department said that 14 firefighters responded to the emergency call received at about 7:10 PM. The blaze originated on the third floor of the building, where a police officer lived with his wife and five children. “The fire consumed 80 percent of the unit,” the spokesperson added. — BERNAMA
