GOMBAK: Construction works along the affected stretch of the Middle Ring Road 2 (MRR2) have been halted after a temporary steel structure collapsed and struck a moving vehicle, Malaysia Rail Link Sdn Bhd (MRL) confirmed on Tuesday (Nov 18).

MRL, the project owner of the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL), said the incident involved a “temporary steel canopy” that fell onto Jalan MRR2 heading towards Batu Caves.

“As a safety measure, all construction work in the affected area has been suspended pending a thorough investigation by the relevant authorities. Based on current information, the driver of the vehicle involved is safe,” MRL said in a statement.

To assist the victim, MRL said immediate financial support will be provided to the vehicle owner while awaiting the official investigation outcome and the subsequent claims process.

Cleanup operations were carried out promptly, with the temporary structure removed under the supervision of the authorities.

MRL added that the canopy was originally installed to prevent construction debris from falling onto the roadway.

“ECRL is fully committed to cooperating with all authorities in the ongoing investigation and ensuring that all safety measures are strictly followed. The safety of road users, the public, and project workers remains our top priority.

“We sincerely appreciate the attention and cooperation of all parties and apologize for any inconvenience caused,” it said.
