GEORGE TOWN, April 16: Police in George Town have arrested two men and seized a large quantity of drugs along with assets valued at over RM300,000 during a raid on a residential property earlier this week.

Northeast district deputy OCPD Lee Swee Sake said the operation was carried out at around 7.30pm on Monday (April 13) by officers from the Narcotics Crime Investigation Division (NCID), acting on intelligence and prior information.

During the raid, police discovered a brown box containing 99 plastic packets filled with a powder believed to be MDMA, weighing approximately 1.77 kg. Authorities also recovered a packet suspected to contain ketamine, four packets of dried leaves believed to be marijuana, and a cigarette containing a mixture of tobacco and suspected cannabis.

In addition to the drugs, police seized a multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) estimated to be worth RM35,000. The total value of the confiscated drugs and assets is estimated at RM306,400.

Investigations revealed that the suspects had allegedly been involved in drug distribution activities since February, targeting the local market. Police estimate that the seized drugs could have supplied up to 974 users.

Both suspects, aged 39 and 66, tested positive for multiple substances, including methamphetamine, amphetamine, and tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). Background checks showed that one suspect had eight prior drug-related offenses, while the other had two similar records.

The two men have been remanded for seven days until April 20 to assist with investigations. The case is being probed under Section 39B of Malaysia’s Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries severe penalties upon conviction.
