KUALA LUMPUR: The draft Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) concerning allocations for opposition Members of Parliament is complete and ready to be submitted by the government.
According to Berita Harian, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof stated that he has instructed his officials to deliver the draft to the Chief Whip of Perikatan Nasional (PN), Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan.
He mentioned that if the opposition agrees with the MoU, a meeting committee will be established to move forward.
“The draft agreement will be handed over to Takiyuddin for review, and if agreed upon, we will set up a meeting committee between the opposition and the government in the near future.
“This agreement is also ready, and I will direct my officials to submit it,” he said after launching the Car Free Day (CFD) program today.
He was responding to media questions regarding the Prime Minister’s directive to expedite the allocation for opposition Members of Parliament.
Last month, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim stated that the issue of distributing allocations to opposition MPs should not be a complicated matter to resolve.
He said this is because the requirement for any opposition MP wishing to receive an allocation is a basic condition and a standard process in any negotiation and democratic practice.
In May, Fadillah mentioned that the draft MoU regarding the allocation to opposition MPs was being finalized and would focus on efforts to develop and revitalize the national economy for the welfare of the people.
Once the draft is complete, he said it will be submitted to the supreme councils of all government and opposition political parties for approval.
