Dr Hasmah, wife of former PM Dr Mahathir, dies at 100

KUALA LUMPUR: Dr Hasmah Ali, wife of former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad, died today at the age of 100.

She is understood to have passed away at the National Heart Institute at about 9.20am.

Hasmah, a medical doctor, was known for using her public platform to champion causes including maternal health, family planning, literacy, drug abuse prevention and mental health.

She was also a prominent figure in Malaysia’s public life during her husband’s tenure as prime minister.
