KUALA LUMPUR: The Ambang Merdeka 2024 celebration, organized by the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) at Dataran Merdeka this Friday, has been canceled.
According to the Wilayahku portal, DBKL announced the cancellation on its Facebook page.
In the statement, DBKL explained that the cancellation is in respect for the victims of several recent incidents around Kuala Lumpur.
“Let us together reflect on the meaning of independence with full patriotic spirit,” the statement said.
Previously, media reported a land subsidence incident last Friday that resulted in the disappearance of a woman named Vijayaletchumy, 48, from Kuppam, Andhra Pradesh, India.
The victim is said to have fallen into a hole eight meters deep at the location, with search and rescue operations now in their sixth day.
