Daesh elements are still there but under the control of the police, says minister
KUALA LUMPUR: The arrest of eight individuals suspected of being involved in elements of the Daesh militant group recently, does not reflect that the country is facing a dangerous threat.
Berita Harian reported, on the other hand, that activities involving the group are still under the control and monitoring radar of the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM).
Home Affairs Minister, Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said, in the operation on May 15, 17 and 30, it clearly showed that the police were always on standby.
“I’m just saying that DAESH elements are still there and the fact is that the police managed to identify and thwart their efforts (DAESH) by making arrests.
“It shows that the security forces, especially the police, are always ready at all times, especially the E8 Division, Special Branch, PDRM who are always gathering intelligence information all the time,” he said after officiating the commemoration of Anti-Drug Day and the National Drug Addiction Science Symposium 2024, here, today .
He said, the fact is that the current national security situation is under control and safe.
“They (DAESH) have been detected trying to spread wrong beliefs and ideologies but are in a limited and isolated group.
“We are confident that the security forces are still capable of dealing with it,” he said.
