KUALA LUMPUR: The Early Schooling Assistance (BAP) will be increased from RM150 to RM200 per student, while Form Six students will receive a RM2,500 living allowance under Budget 2027.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the increase in Early Schooling Assistance would benefit 5.3 million students, with an allocation of RM1 billion.

“This means a family with four children will receive RM800 to help prepare for the 2027 school session,” he said when tabling Budget 2027 in the Dewan Rakyat today.

Anwar said the assistance would be distributed at schools, allowing parents to attend and meet teachers in person.

The move aims to encourage shared responsibility in supporting children’s academic progress and character development.

Meanwhile, he said the RM2,500 living allowance for Form Six students would benefit 90,000 students.

The amount is equivalent to the allowance provided to matriculation students.

In addition, the government has allocated RM870 million for the Supplementary Food Programme (RMT), benefiting more than 800,000 students.

Anwar also announced the expansion of teaching assistant recruitment to 200 high-enrolment primary schools.

He said the initiative aims to reduce teachers’ administrative workload, allowing them to focus on their primary responsibility of educating students.

The recruitment of teaching assistants will be expanded in phases following an assessment of the programme’s effectiveness.
