Brunei Celebrates Birth of Royal Princess with 17-Gun Salute

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, Brunei :  Brunei marked the joyous birth of the first child of Prince Abdul Mateen and Princess Anisha Rosnah Adam with a traditional 17-gun salute at Istana Nurul Iman on Sunday.

Princess Anisha delivered a baby girl at 8:50 a.m., adding another grandchild to His Majesty Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah’s royal family, the royal family confirmed. The happy news was also shared personally by Princess Anisha on Instagram, drawing widespread attention and congratulations from Bruneians and royal family admirers.

According to a statement from the Sultan’s Office, the ceremonial gunfire is part of Brunei’s royal tradition to express gratitude and celebrate the arrival of a new member of the royal lineage. The event was accompanied by customary celebrations and a flood of congratulatory messages on social media from citizens nationwide.

Prince Abdul Mateen, the tenth child of Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah, had announced his wife’s pregnancy in October 2025. The couple, who married on January 11, 2024, at Masjid Omar Ali Saifuddien in a ceremony rich with royal customs, is widely admired throughout the country.

The 17-gun salute, a longstanding Brunei royal tradition, symbolizes high honor for the newborn and reflects the nation’s deep cultural heritage.
