BN vs PN clash in Mahkota by-election

KUALA LUMPUR: The Mahkota by-election will officially feature a one-on-one contest between Barisan Nasional (BN) and Perikatan Nasional (PN) candidates.

According to the Wilayahku portal, BN is fielding Syed Hussien Syed Abdullah, the Chief of UMNO Kluang Youth, representing the unity government, while PN is nominating Mohamad Haizan Jaafar, a member of Bersatu Kluang’s committee.

The qualified candidates will be announced by the Election Commission’s Returning Officer, Azurawati Wahid, around 11 a.m. later today.

BN candidate Syed Hussien, 40, submitted his nomination papers at 9 a.m., while Mohamad Haizan, 61, submitted his at 9:05 a.m.

The Mahkota state assembly by-election is being held following the death of the incumbent, Datuk Sharifah Azizah Syed Zain, on August 2.

The Election Commission (EC) has scheduled early voting for the Mahkota by-election on September 24, with the polling day set for September 28.
