KUALA LUMPUR: Barisan Nasional (BN) is expected to announce its list of candidates for the Negeri Sembilan State Election this week.

Its President, Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the approach to candidate selection in the state needs to be tailored to the current situation as it has its own uniqueness in terms of the number of seats, population demographics and voters.

He said BN’s strategy in Negeri Sembilan also cannot be compared to other states as it needs to take into account local political factors.

“This is not just about candidates, but the situation in Negeri Sembilan is certainly different. The number of seats is also different and the population and voting demographics are also different.

“So the formula needs to be adapted to the political situation in Negeri Sembilan. We will announce the candidates this week,” he said when met by the media after attending the Joint Address Ceremony with the TVET@KKDW Contingent for Worldskills Shanghai 2026 here today.

Previously, Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar, Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun announced the dissolution of the Negeri Sembilan State Legislative Assembly effective June 5 after obtaining the consent of the Yang di-Pertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan, Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir.

The dissolution paves the way for the Negeri Sembilan State Election to elect 36 new State Legislative Assembly members.

In the 2023 state election, Pakatan Harapan (PH) formed the state government after winning 17 state seats with the support of Barisan Nasional (BN), which secured 14 seats, while Perikatan Nasional (PN) won five seats.
