JOHOR BAHRU: The decision by Barisan Nasional (BN) and Pakatan Harapan (PH) Johor to each express intentions to contest all 56 State Legislative Assembly (DUN) seats in the upcoming Johor state election will not affect cooperation at the federal government level, according to Fahmi Fadzil.

Fahmi, who is the Communications Director of PH, said the positions announced by both Johor BN and Johor PH reflected the views and aspirations at the state level.

“I believe we should wait and hear the views from the top leadership at the PH level later this evening,” he told reporters during the PH Convention at the Persada International Convention Centre here today.

When asked whether there were signs that BN might eventually negotiate with PH, Fahmi did not dismiss the possibility.

“Maybe, maybe, yes,” he replied briefly.

Yesterday, Johor Menteri Besar and Johor BN chairman Onn Hafiz Ghazi announced BN’s decision to contest all state seats. The move was later echoed by Johor PH director Aminolhuda Hassan during his speech at the convention today.

In a separate development, Fahmi, who is also PKR Information Chief, said PH is prepared to face any possibility, including a reported special state assembly sitting expected to take place on June 24.

Commenting on the PH Convention 2026 themed “Tekad MADANI, Harapan Rakyat”, Fahmi said the event had proceeded smoothly, with attendance from members, delegates and party leaders estimated to have exceeded 8,000 people, surpassing the initial target of 5,000 participants.

Prime Minister and PH chairman Anwar Ibrahim is scheduled to deliver the keynote address and officiate the closing session of the convention later today.

Among other leaders expected to speak are DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke Siew Fook, Amanah president Mohamad Sabu and PH chief secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution Ismail.
