PETALING JAYA: A Bangladeshi man has been detained to assist with investigations regarding allegations of possessing two passports that went viral on social media, including one believed to involve the Malaysian International Passport (PMA).

Immigration Department (JIM) Director-General, Datuk Zakaria Shaaban said that a team of six immigration officers raided a container at Jalan Kuantan Bandar Damansara, Kuantan at 6.30 p.m. yesterday before finding a Bangladeshi man at the location.

“Further inspection found two copies of PMA that had expired on 25 April 2017 and 25 October 2022 respectively, as well as a Seaman’s Service Book belonging to a local citizen.

“The man was then detained and taken to the Kuantan Immigration Office to assist with investigations,” he said in a statement today.

He said that investigations are being conducted to identify the actual owner of both copies of the PMA and the Seaman’s Service Book, as well as to investigate the possibility of unauthorised possession, misuse of travel documents, or other offences.

“JIM takes seriously every allegation related to the misuse or possession of Malaysian travel documents. The public is advised not to make any speculation until the investigation is completed.

“If any violation of the law is found, stern action will be taken according to the provisions of the applicable laws,” he said.
