Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim landed in Egypt today for a four-day official visit at the behest of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi.

The chartered jet transporting Anwar and his delegation arrived at Cairo International Airport at 6:30 PM local time. Egyptian Prime Minister Mustafa Madbouly, Malaysian Ambassador to Egypt Datuk Mohd Tarid Sufian, and additional authorities welcomed the Prime Minister.

Anwar examined the 16-member Static Guard of Honor at the Presidential Arrival Hall.

The Prime Minister is accompanied on this visit by Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan, Investment, Trade, and Industry Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Zafrul Abdul Aziz, Deputy Minister of Energy Transition and Water Transformation Akmal Nasrullah Mohd Nasir, and Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Sustainability Datuk Seri Huang Tiong Sii.

Today, the Prime Minister will receive an official welcome at the Al-Ittihadiya Palace before a private meeting with El-Sisi, followed by a bilateral talk between the two leaders.

Anwar and El-Sisi will observe the signing of memorandums of understanding, including one between Malaysia and the Faculty of Islamic Studies at Al-Azhar Al-Sharif and another concerning Malaysia-Egypt cooperation in religious issues.

In the afternoon, Anwar will present a public lecture at Al-Azhar University, subsequently engaging in a roundtable discussion with Egyptian industry leaders.

Last year, Egypt ranked as Malaysia’s fifth-largest commercial partner among African countries, with bilateral trade amounting to RM3.35 billion.

From January to September of this year, bilateral trade between the two nations amounted to RM3 billion, reflecting a 21.4 percent growth compared to the corresponding period in 2023. We anticipate that this year’s trade value will surpass last year’s estimates.
