Anwar optimistic that Sikorski’s official visit will strengthen Malaysia-Poland cooperation
KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is confident and optimistic that the official visit of Poland’s Foreign Minister, Radoslaw Sikorski, to Malaysia will significantly contribute to strengthening cooperation between the two countries.
According to Bernama, in a Facebook post yesterday, Anwar announced that he had received a courtesy visit from Sikorski, who is currently on an official visit to the country.
He stated that their discussions covered efforts to further strengthen bilateral relations between Malaysia and Poland, particularly in areas such as defense cooperation, digital economy, agricultural exports, and the palm oil sector.
“In addition, we also discussed ASEAN-EU cooperation, considering Poland’s role as President of the European Council (EU) from January to June 2025 and Malaysia’s role as ASEAN Chair next year.
“The approximately 40-minute meeting also extensively and deeply discussed pressing issues related to the conflicts in Ukraine and Palestine,” he said.
This is Sikorski’s first visit to Malaysia since December 2023.
He was accompanied by Deputy Minister of Defense Pawel Ksawery Zalewski and Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Michal Kolodziejczak.
In 2023, Poland was Malaysia’s eighth largest trading partner within the EU.
From January to July 2024, bilateral trade between the two countries increased by 14.7 percent to RM3.05 billion (US$0.65 billion), compared to RM2.66 billion (US$0.57 billion) for the same period in 2023.
