The report claiming that Malaysia is a state sponsor of terrorism is false

KUALA LUMPUR: According to Minister of Communications of Malaysia, Fahmi Fadzil, the widely circulated message asserting that Malaysia is the first Asean member nation sanctioned by the US is fake.

The spokesperson for the Unity Government, Fahmi, said he had proof from the US Embassy that the message going viral was false. International news outlet Reuters likewise refuted publishing a story with such false information.

He wrote on Facebook today, “I confirm that the viral message is fake based on the denial by the Reuters Press Team on X and the confirmation I received from the US Embassy.”

A report that went viral on WhatsApp and said that the US has named Malaysia as the first state sponsor of terrorism in the area was previously rejected by Reuters.

The news organisation stated on its X platform, “Any claims that Reuters reported that Malaysia is the first nation in Southeast Asia to be listed by the United States as a state sponsor of terror are false.” – Bernama
