Officiated by Home Minister YB Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution bin Ismail at the Immigration Department Headquarters in Putrajaya, this year’s celebration carried the theme “AI Leading Immigration Reform,” symbolizing the government’s commitment to advancing service delivery through innovation.

In his keynote address, the minister emphasized that the theme encapsulates the MADANI Government’s strategic objective to enhance the effectiveness, responsiveness, and user-centricity of public services. A key initiative within this digital reform agenda is the introduction of MyVISA 2.0, scheduled for rollout on 1 August 2025, which aims to streamline visa applications and significantly improve user experience.

“This is not merely a technological upgrade but a systemic transformation in how immigration services will be delivered moving forward,” the minister stated. “AI will be pivotal in ensuring smarter, faster, and more secure operations.”

The event also served as a platform to reaffirm the Ministry’s broader Reform Agenda, which places AI at the core of strengthening border security, optimizing operational workflows, and accelerating service turnaround times. These reforms align with the national aspiration to build a modern, efficient, and digitally empowered public administration under the MADANI philosophy.

The Immigration Department of Malaysia (JIM) reiterated its steadfast commitment to institutional modernization and regulatory enhancement, aiming to safeguard national security while improving service delivery. The department views this transformation as integral to Malaysia’s long-term vision of becoming a competitive, high-integrity, and innovation-led nation.

As part of its upskilling initiative, nearly 120 JIM officers have been enrolled in AI-focused training programs at local universities since the beginning of the year.

Datuk Zakaria Shaaban, Director-General of Immigration, confirmed that three to four cohorts—comprising 20 to 30 officers each—have either completed or are currently undergoing specialized AI training.

“We have responded decisively to the minister’s directive by initiating targeted AI training for our officers,” he said during a press briefing. “With today’s strong endorsement from the Ministry, we will further accelerate these efforts to ensure our personnel are equipped to lead in this new digital frontier.”

Minister Saifuddin also called upon the department to broaden participation in AI education, stressing the importance of cultivating technical proficiency across all operational levels.

“The mastery of emerging technologies like AI is essential to revolutionize service delivery in our immigration systems,” he remarked.

As Malaysia continues to prioritize digital governance, the 103rd Immigration Day celebration marked a pivotal milestone—reinforcing the Immigration Department’s evolving role as a key driver of the nation’s digital transformation agenda.
