KUALA LUMPUR|| July 7, 2025 (Voice of Malaysia)— With the successful conclusion of the ASEAN Senior Officials’ Meeting (SOM) today, Kuala Lumpur is set to welcome foreign ministers and senior leaders for the 58th ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting (AMM) and a full week of high-level diplomatic engagements starting Tuesday.

Foreign Ministry Secretary-General Datuk Seri Amran Mohamed Zin, who chaired the SOM, confirmed that discussions proceeded smoothly and that Malaysia is fully prepared to host the ministerial-level meetings.

“We have four more days, from Tuesday to Friday, to complete the full series of meetings,” he told reporters after the SEANWFZ (Southeast Asia Nuclear Weapon-Free Zone Treaty) Executive Committee Meeting, which immediately followed the SOM.

The ASEAN Ministerial Week, taking place under Malaysia’s 2025 ASEAN Chairmanship with the theme “Inclusivity and Sustainability,” will feature 24 high-level meetings, including:

  • The 58th ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting (AMM)

  • ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Retreat

  • ASEAN Plus One Post-Ministerial Conferences (PMCs) with Dialogue Partners

  • Engagements with Sectoral Dialogue Partners and ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF) participants

Datuk Seri Amran also announced that Malaysia will host trilateral meetings with the ASEAN Secretariat and four non-ASEAN countries—Norway, Switzerland, Brazil, and Türkiye—aimed at fostering broader regional partnerships.

Malaysia’s Foreign Minister, Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan, is scheduled to hold a series of bilateral meetings with counterparts from ASEAN member states and dialogue partner countries over the course of the week.

Today’s SOM brought together secretaries-general and senior representatives from the foreign ministries of all ten ASEAN member states. The officials reviewed preparations for the AMM and exchanged views on priority issues that will be addressed during the upcoming sessions.

The meetings will take place from July 8 to 11 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC), with an estimated 1,500 delegates expected to attend. These include ministers and senior officials from:

  • ASEAN Member States

  • Timor-Leste

  • ASEAN Dialogue Partners

  • ASEAN Regional Forum participants

  • Sectoral Dialogue Partners

  • ASEAN Secretariat

The ASEAN Ministerial Week in Kuala Lumpur marks a key moment in Malaysia’s 2025 Chairmanship and is expected to strengthen regional cooperation across political, economic, and socio-cultural dimensions.
