Umno moves forward, hopes Najib receives fair justice

KUALA LUMPUR : A leader from Umno’s youth wing said the party will continue to move forward despite criticisms from Pandan MP Rafizi Ramli, who questioned the SRC International Sdn Bhd fund case involving former Prime Minister Najib Razak.

Puteri Umno Chief Nurul Amal Mohd Fauzi said that the prosecution against Najib was initiated during the Pakatan Harapan (PH) administration in 2019.

However, she expressed hope that regardless of the outcome, Najib would be granted proper and fair justice.

“Has Rafizi asked himself that question? We (Umno) are continuing to move forward and hope Najib receives fair justice.

“Whatever the perception (from any party), Umno and the Puteri wing will continue to stand with Najib,” she told.

Yesterday, former prime minister Najib Razak was granted a discharge not amounting to an acquittal (DNAA) in the money laundering case involving RM27 million of SRC International Sdn Bhd funds.

Earlier, Judge K Muniandy made the decision, stating that there was nothing to suggest the prosecution was ready to proceed with the case at this time or within a reasonable period.

Muniandy also noted that since the case was filed against Najib in 2019, no witness testimony had been presented, and instead, a series of postponements had occurred – indicating the prosecution was still not ready to proceed.

Last week, Najib’s lawyer, Shafee Abdullah, argued that it was unfair for his client to wait indefinitely for a trial date, as the prosecution failed to provide a timeline for gathering the exhibits used in the previous SRC trial.

The court was informed that 807 exhibits were presented in the earlier trial related to SRC.

Najib, 71, had applied for the three money laundering charges filed against him in February 2019 to be dropped.
