KUALA LUMPUR, 17 June 2025 – Malaysians currently in Iran have been strongly advised to leave the country immediately using any safe means available, as the situation continues to deteriorate following escalating tensions between Iran and Israel.

In a statement issued today, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Wisma Putra) said that the Malaysian Embassy in Tehran is closely monitoring the security developments on the ground.

The ministry noted that this advisory follows Israel’s aggressive actions against Iran on June 13, which have further intensified regional instability.

“The current situation is highly volatile and could worsen without warning. The safety and wellbeing of Malaysian citizens remain the ministry’s top priority,” the statement read.

At present, the Malaysian Embassy is maintaining close contact with all registered Malaysians in Iran. All of them have been confirmed safe and have been advised to make immediate arrangements to leave the country.

“The embassy will continue to provide consular assistance to facilitate their departure from Tehran,” the ministry added.

Meanwhile, international media reported that 21 Arab and Islamic countries have issued a joint statement condemning Israel’s airstrikes on Iran. They also called for de-escalation, nuclear disarmament without discrimination, and respect for international law.

The countries involved in the initiative include Türkiye, Jordan, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Pakistan, Bahrain, Brunei, Chad, Gambia, Algeria, Comoros, Djibouti, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Somalia, Iraq, Oman, Qatar, Kuwait, Libya, Egypt, and Mauritania.

Wisma Putra also announced that it has activated an operations room starting Tuesday as a precautionary measure. Families of Malaysians in Iran may contact the ministry for more information at +603 8887 4570 or email dutyofficer@kln.gov.my.
