His lawyer says that Dr. Hussam Abu Safia, who is Palestinian and runs the Kamal Adwan Hospital in Gaza, spent two weeks in the controversial Israeli prison camp of Sde Taiman.
According to Ghayd Qassem, the respected Palestinian figure was tortured, abused, and questioned for hours.

“As soon as he was arrested, Dr. Hussam Abu Safia was taken to the Sde Teiman detention center and locked up alone for 14 days.”

This is what Qassem said when he gave an update after meeting Abu Safia in Ofer Prison.

“He is being held in Ofer Prison, which is west of Ramallah, and has been questioned in a harsh way.”

She said that even though he had health problems, the Israeli government couldn’t come up with a real charge against him. The “unlawful combatant” law is what is being used to hold Abu Safia. His lawyer said that you are taking away his basic rights.

“Abuse, torture, and brutal assaults were used against him during interrogations.”

“He didn’t know that his mother had died and asked if the body of his murdered son had been taken from the hospital to be buried.”

Abu Safia was taken away by force by Israeli troops in December after he bravely fought back against the regime’s attacks.

People were questioned about suspected ties to the Palestinian resistance group Hamas, and he was one of them.

At that time, the Israeli government admitted that it had raided the hospital area and taken at least 240 staff members hostage. It was still not clear where Abu Safia and the other hospital staff were.

Earlier reports have gone into depth about how Palestinians in Sde Teiman were killed, tortured, sexually assaulted, and other rights were violated.

Two Palestinians who had been freed from Sde Teiman earlier said they saw Abu Safia there.

Ibrahim, Abu Safia’s 15-year-old son, was killed by an Israeli drone strike at the outside of the hospital in late October 2024. He had a hard time after his son was killed, but he stood strong.

Because he cared so much about his patients, he became a symbol of sacrifice, strength, and resistance against the Israeli genocide and apartheid.

International aid groups say that Israel’s strikes on hospitals, ambulances, and health care workers were a key part of their plan to kill all Palestinians living in the besieged areas.
