Over half of PPTN borrowers who haven’t paid their loans are still getting Sumbangan Tunai Rahmah (STR)
PTPTN recorded that 415,109 borrowers have not made any payments as of August 31.
According to Zambry’s written answer to Parliament, 189,580 borrowers (45.7%) are getting help from STR, while 225,529 borrowers (54.3%) are not.
Specifically, he pointed out that PTPTN uses information from when people were applying for loans, usually when they didn’t have any income.
Without this information, the company can’t properly keep track of borrowers’ current financial situations.
It was in answer to Khairil Nizam Khirudin’s (PN-Jerantut) request for information on how many PTPTN loan borrowers with income above RM3,000 had not paid back their loans.
He inquired about the presence of defaulters in Khairil’s Jerantut district.
Zambry reported that 1,710 borrowers in Jerantut alone have not made their loan repayments, totaling RM38.17 million in late payments.
This news highlights the ongoing difficulties in recovering loans, even though the government tries to help borrowers through financial aid programs.
