Establishing a cooperative to support Bumiputera Petrol Station Operators
KUALA LUMPUR: The establishment of Koperasi BUMIPEDA Berhad (KOBB) aims to assist Bumiputera petrol station operators in Malaysia in managing the impending rise in business costs.
The President of the Bumiputera Petrol Station Operators Association of Malaysia (BUMIPEDA), Abdul Aziz Sapian, stated that all operators need to prepare for this situation.
“We are facing an increase in fuel prices. We must be ready for the upcoming costs that will rise.
“By thinking ahead, one of the initiatives is to establish a cooperative. This cooperative can trade to support our friends who will be involved later,” he said at a press conference after officiating the First Annual General Meeting of KOBB.
According to Abdul Aziz, the establishment of the cooperative is not meant to showcase himself.
He emphasized that he wants to focus on the future economic prospects of Malays in the petrol station business.
“That is our goal,” he said.
Meanwhile, Abdul Aziz mentioned that the rise in diesel prices has had some impact.
He warned that the situation could become more complicated in the future if Bumiputera petrol station operators do not prepare themselves now.
“Thus, one of the immediate actions is to establish the cooperative.
“This cooperative also mandates our board to lead this initiative because of the experience we have,” he said.
