KUALA LUMPUR: Public servants will be able to review and learn about their new salary rates next week following the salary adjustments introduced by the government through the Public Service Remuneration System (SSPA).

According to Bernama, Datuk Mohd Shaiful Ibrahim, Deputy Director-General of Public Service (Operations), stated that details about the salary adjustment mechanism will be announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim during the 19th Public Service Premier Address (MAPPA) on August 16.

“At the MAPPA on August 16, we will provide services to calculate how much of a salary increase will occur.

“There will be a calculator to determine the new salary amounts. On December 1, the salary increase will take effect, and by the end of the month, public servants will receive their new salary rates,” he said today.

The 19th MAPPA will take place at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre at 8 a.m.

Mohd Shaiful mentioned that the SSPA applies to federal public service, and the Public Service Department (JPA) will issue a circular regarding it.

“For state public servants, statutory bodies, and local authorities, if they adopt the SSPA, it will be the same as for federal public servants,” he said.

When asked about the benefits of the SSPA, Mohd Shaiful explained that, in addition to salary increases, the system also includes organizational development and talent management for officers, as well as benefits for retirees.

“According to the Pension Act, if there are salary increases for serving officers, retirees will also be affected. This means they will receive increases based on the established formulas,” he said.

Regarding the review of the pension scheme, including the introduction of contribution methods similar to the private sector, Mohd Shaiful assured that the government guarantees that the benefits for public servants will not be less than what they currently receive.

“The government will not bear ongoing financial burdens, and officers will not face losses. The benefits for officers will remain the same and will not be less than those who receive pensions … there will be contributions from both employees and employers,” he said.

Mohd Shaiful also noted that last year, the government spent approximately RM32 billion on pension payments for public servants, with this amount increasing by RM2 million each year.
